Birthday parties and holiday celebrations at school provide a unique
opportunity to help make healthful eating fun and exciting for
children. Listed below are ideas for healthy snacks:
Food items
• Fruit smoothies - blend berries, bananas, with yogurt (we do
not have a blender at school)
• Fresh fruit, fruit and cheese kabobs, fruit salad
• Vegetables trays with low-fat dip or peanut butter
• Whole grain crackers with cheese cubes, or string cheese
• Waffles or pancakes topped with fruit (we have a toaster)
• Pretzels, low-fat popcorn, rice cakes, graham crackers,
animal crackers
• Angel food cake, plain or topped with fruit
• Mini bagels with peanut butter or jam
• Low-fat or sugar free pudding, low fat yogurt, sugar free
Jello
• Granola bars
• Trail mix (whole grain/low-sugar cereals mixed with dried
fruit, pretzels, nuts)
• Peanut butter cracker sandwiches
• Small bran, oatmeal or multi-grain muffins
. Sugar free fruit pops
• Our school pretzels cost 50c. If you choose to purchase this
snack, we can certainly provide each child with a pretzel
half.
