Room 100 Newsletter
Week of April 24, 2016
Last week was a crazy, busy week! We had our class trip, Grandparents Day and the Scholastic Book Fair ! I’m hoping this week there are less interruptions!
We have completed every letter of the alphabet and numbers 0-20! For the remaining weeks of this school year, we will be reviewing letters, numbers, colors and shapes! I will be doing some assessing with the children on an individual basis in preparation for our end of year conferences that will take place on Monday, May 9. I will be sending you a Sign Up Genius through email in the upcoming week so that you can schedule a time to meet with me to discuss your child’s progress.
This week we will begin a unit on the Lifecycle of a Butterfly!
The unit will last for the next few weeks!
We will be learning that first an egg is produced, followed by a caterpillar/ Next the caterpillar forms a chrysalis and eventually a butterfly emerges. I will be using a variety of picture cards as well as plastic manipulatives that the children can use to put the stages in order to demonstrate their understanding. It will be fun for all!!!!
Live caterpillars will arrive next week and the class will get to observe them on a daily basis! They will eat lots and lots before forming a chrysalis and then eventually transforming into monarch butterflies right before our eyes!
I will keep you posted on their arrival!
The school show is this week! We will go to a dress rehearsal of the Lion King on Wednesday, April 27. There will be NO Music or Gym class this week!
Thank you to everyone who purchased books at the Scholastic Book Fair for our classroom! I will be reading them to the class this week in school!
Crayon Initiative! The school is collecting broken crayons. If you have any around the house, you can send them in to school. We have a box in our classroom to gather them. One of the Girl Scout Troops is collecting them. The crayons will be melted down and recycled into brand new crayons and distributed to local hospitals for children! How awesome!
Happy Birthday, Lily Keenan! April 25
