Room 100 Newsletter
Week of October 18, 2015
Thank you all for attending the class trip to Ramsey Farm! It was a gorgeous morning and everyone had a great time on the hayride, picking pumpkins and running through the hay bale maze!
Our focus this week will be on Halloween!
Nothing scary, just fun! Here are some highlights for the week:
On Thursday, we will visit the school science lab and carve our class pumpkin that we brought back from Ramsey Farm. I will be reading the book titled, “Pumpkin Jack” by Will Hubbell. This is a story of a boy who puts his Jack O Lantern outside after Halloween and watches it change throughout winter and spring. In the end, the seeds grow and leave him with a vine of pumpkins. We will place our Jack O Lantern outside too and watch what happens to it throughout the cold months to come. We will also take pictures of the changes our pumpkin experiences.
The children will have the opportunity to help clean out the inside of our pumpkin and separate the seeds from the pulp. We’ll wash the seeds and then bake them. Everyone will have the chance to taste them and we will also send some home in a baggie for you to try! We will chart “Do you like pumpkin seeds?”
We will also head outside on Friday and stuff a shirt and pants full of hay to make our very own scarecrow. We’ll add a plastic pumpkin for the head and top it off with a hat!
We will name our scarecrow and display him outside!
We have been listening to Halloween songs in school. The children love acting out two songs in particular, “ Witches Brew” and “ 3 Little Witches”. I’m sure they can sing and act them out for you!
Thank you, Mrs. Reagoso, Clare’s mom, for assisting with Gym class last week!
Religion
We will be reviewing our lessons on the light of Jesus within us and relating it to lighting a Jack O Lantern. We will also review the Blessed Trinity and relating it to the 3 colors in candy corn.
