Many parents ask me "How can I keep my child safe online at home?" Below are a few good sites that will help you have conversations with your child. Every household has different rules and regulations on electronic devices. Remember that today's children have access to more wireless devises then ever before. Giving your young child your phone to play games on while they are waiting for you seems to be on the rise. However, remember that it is connected to the Internet, probably without a filter. Many young children are getting social media accounts at a young age. Ask yourself the question on why this is allowed at your house? Does a third or fourth grader really need a instagram or snap chat account?
Let me tell you what I do in class. Every May I take the month and go over Internet Safety with all the children in our school. For the primary grades K-4 we learn how Clicky deals with bad behavior on the Internet. I teach them what to look out for and how to stay safe. The older children are taught about their digital footprint. We discuss ideas on how to keep their information safe and secure.
if you would like additional information on how you can help your child stay safe on the Internet below are a few good places to start.
