Our theme for our classroom is a Safari theme. Each full week over the course of the school year,
every student will have an opportunity to be the Safari Guide of the Week.
The selected kindergartener can share in a variety of ways with
his/her fellow classmates. Listed below are the directions for this activity:
Weekend/Adventures - The Safari Guide of the Week will have the
opportunity to take home a stuffed animal for a weekend.
He/she will be encouraged to take this stuffed animal everywhere that the he/she goes
(dance class, soccer practice, ect.). A journal will also be sent home that will
encourage the documentation of the weekend together. Please include a
written journal entry, pictures and a drawing of your adventures together
to share with the rest of the class on Monday morning.
Monday - All About Me - Bring a poster (Provided by Miss Barbella) of
pictures/drawings depicting important events in your child's life, i. e. baby,
vacation, family events, birthdays, etc. Please also color & return to school.
Tuesday - Favorite storybook - Bring a special storybook for Miss Barbella to
read to the class.
Wednesday - Show & Tell - Bring a special item for show & tell, i.e.
vacation mementoes, awards, collections, etc. Please put item in a brown paper
bag and have (3) clues prepared so the other children may guess about the
show & tell. Please don't send anything of great value or that can
be easily broken.
Thursday - Estimation Jar - Bring the container Miss Barbella will provide in
which you have placed items that the class can guess/estimate how many such
as pom-poms, pennies, buttons, gummy bears, jelly beans, tootsie rolls,
etc. If you are sending edible items, please be aware your child will be
sharing these with the class. Also, be sure you and your kindergartener
have counted the items and written the number on a sheet of paper to give to
Miss Barbella.
Friday - Special sharing – Safari Guide of the Week may invite family members to
come to class at 2:00 PM. At that time, the student may create with his/her classmates
a special snack, (please keep in mind that this is the end of the day and we
will not be able to use the ovens in the multi-purpose room. We do have a
micro-wave oven), simple craft (I have lots of supplies, so please check with me if you
need anything), simple science experiment, demonstrate a special skill or talent or
share additional mementoes or another special book.
If the days I have assigned for your child are not convenient, please let me
know quickly so other arrangements can be made. Each child will be
assigned five school days, but if a pesky illness or school is closed due
to inclement weather; we will attempt to make up your child's special days.
