6/11/2018 A big shout out to the Homeroom moms. The party was awesome today. The weather was not great, but we had a fun time in the gym with the games and crafts. Thank you for your help. Bob Kelly from Fox "Channel 29"- Good Day/ Philadephia will visit our school tomorrow morning from 9:00 to 10:00. Please watch for our children and teachers. We hope it will be a very fun and exciting visit which will highlight all the wonderful and exciting events that have occurred at St. Maximilian Kolbe this school year.
On Wednesday the first graders with get a chance to have snack with their 8th grade buddies. It's a surprise, please do not tell them! We will have snack outside and the children will be able to play together before the 8th graders say good-bye to St. Max! We want to say Thank You for all your help this year. Good Luck in high school!!!
Thursday will be our Spring Fling Day! Please send in quarters with your field graders. The guarters should be placed in a zip - lock bag or a change purse. The children will be playing games, having water ice, and getting their face painted. It will be a fun time.
Thursday and Friday will also be when we take our last Reading test of the year. Please make sure your child has three sharpen pencils and a healthy snack on test days. Plus, plenty of sleep at night!!!

Thank you to Mrs. Melvin, Mrs. Moyer, Mrs. Venzie, Mrs. McHugh, Mrs. Raley, and Mrs. Parker for taking time out of your busy day and helping us at the Science Fair today! The children had a great experience. They really enjoyed the following stations: sink and float, planting flowers and grass seeds, please touch (lloking s seashells) and the lima bean station, but the big hit of the the day - was when they exploded volcanoes (which we made in Art class). 5/10/2018 Ascension Thursday - Please meet us at 8:00 Mass before we board the bus for the weather event from Channel 10 and watch the Phillies Game. The children are able to wear the gym uniform with their Phillies shirt or St. Max t-shirt. Please wear a hat an sunscreen. Lunches should be packed in a ziplock bag. No toys should be brought on the trip. We should return to campus between 5:15 - 5:30 on Thursday.
5?11/2018 Field Day - please ask your child whether they are on the red or blue team. They should wear that color shirt for the day. Children will be dismissed at 11:30 on Friday!

Tuesday 5/1 will be Class picture day, Please remember to send in your money if you wish to purschase a picture this year. I need to remind you that since it's our gym day. The children need to come to school dresses in the formal school uniform for our picture. After the picture is taken the children will be able to change in their gym uniforms.
Thank you for signing up for the Science Fair next week. All spots are taken for donations. I only need two more helpers to run stations. If you can assist, please let me know.
Our field trip is quickly approaching! Please remember that we must attend Mass at 8:00 in order to fillful our obligation for the Holy Day, which is Ascension Thursday That was a request from Msgr. & Mrs. Malseed. I will meet the children in Church on Thursday, May 10th. If you have a sibling that attends our school, please drop them off at school & they will be attend Mass at 10:00. Unless they are in 2nd and 3rd grade then they will also be attending Mass with us!
Parents can sit with the children on that day. After Mass we will need to load the bus and leave for the ballpark immediately. The children will need to wear the St. Max gym uniform, bring a hat, wear sunsceen, and pack a lunch for the trip. The lunch should be in a clear bag, so we can throw away at the ballpark. Please no toys or cellphones on the trip for the children.
4/9/2018 The Book Fair was a success. Thank you to the moms and dad who attended this event. Your help was fantasic! The children loved getting new books.
Wednesday 4/11 will be Grandparent's Day from 1:00 - 2:30. The schedule is as follows: *prayer service in the gym *visit the book fair in the library *visit the classrooms *have a picture taken outside the 8th grade classrooms *snacks in the MPR. It will be a wonderful afternoon. If your child will be going home with your parents please send a note in their folder. Otherwise I will be sending them home on the bus / car line. 3/20/2018 Stations of the Cross with Msgr. The children were excited to walk the way of the cross and pray with Msgr. today. They were angels.
Our 100th day, Valentine's Day party, and Ash Wednesday happened last week. The children were very, very busy in first grade. Please send me any pictures that may have been taken at the Valentine's Day Party. Thank you for the many cards, flowers, and candy.
Our Reading and Spelling test for Lesson 17 "The Big Trip will take place this Thursday 2/22. We are currently off the normal test day due to the ice storm and day off for the Eagles parade. Please follow the homework sheet for updates on your child's test. I hope to be back on the Friday testing schedule sometime in March.
The first grade Health fair will be next Tuesday, 2/27 in the MPR. The children will learn many fun and interesting information about pet safety, pool safety, teeth care, stranger danger from a police officer, and taking care of our bodies. Look for pictures and treats that will be sent home from the day.
Book Log for this month are due on Wednesday, 2/28.
Please remember your donations for Mrs. Keenan. She is collecting donations for "0Jumprope for Hearts." The children should also be practicing with a jumprope at home. This will help them in class. Thank you for your cooperation!!!!
2/6/18 Fly Eagles Fly! I hope everyone will have a fun and safe day off tomorrow! Whether you are cheering for the team at home or down in Philadelphia, please be safe and warm! The children are very excited about the Eagles win! So is their teacher. I will be attending the parade with my family and I am very excited!!!!
Reading and Spelling Tests for Lesson 16 (Let's Go To The Moon) will be given on Monday, 2/12.
Exciting news at St. Max! We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Tuesday 2/13. The children will parade around school with the 2nd grade students and complete stations in our classrooms. It is always a fun time in first grade! Watch for pictures from our day on our webpage!
Wednesday 2/14 will be the beginning of Lent. The children will attend out Lenten prayer serice at 10:00 and get ashes. We will discuss the importance of the Lenten Season.
The First Grade class will celebrate Valentine's Day in the afternoon with our homeroom parents. Please remember to send in your child's shoebox, which must be decorated and ready to go for the cards and candy that may be given out that day!

1/25/2018 Our Ocean Projects were a blast today. The children had fun creating their master pieces. What should have taken an hour turned into 2 and a half hours of delight for the children. They were sharing materials and ideas throughout the project. You will be able to see the finished results in May when we showcase our Genius Hour Projects.
Next week we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week! Please help us kick off the week by attending Mass at 9:00 on Sunday. There will be an Open House from 10:00 to 12:00 in our school. Come and visit your child's classroom and see the beautiful proects he or she has been working on this month. I aslo encourage you to visit the classrooms of your child's future teacher and our special teachers.
Many fun actvities are planned for next week - please follow the homework sheet each day or I will place a note in child's folder addressing what is needed for the next day!
Testing for next week will be on Tuesday 1/30 and Wednesday 1/31! I will give the Benchmark Unit Three Reading Test on both Days. The spelling test will be given on Wednesday 1/31. Your child will need to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, bring a snack to school, and have 3 pencils all set & ready to go for the Benchmark Test! Thank you for your help!!
Our 100 Days of School Celebration will take place on Thursday, Feb. 8th. A note will be sent home shortly, explaining the poster that needs to be done for this day. Be creative and have fun!
1/2/18 Happy New Year to all the first grade children and parents! I am so excited to see the children tomorrow. Please dress warmly all week. There will be inside recess this week due to the cold temperatures this week.
The reading and spelling tests will be moved to Monday, Jan. 8th due to the short week.
Our school Mass for January will be on Tuesday, January 9th. All parents are invited to attend and 4 lucky first graders will be bringing up the gifts. Also, please send in a canned goods for the St. Agnes Day Room. Thank you in advance for your kindness.

12/17/2017 Last week of school before Christmas Break. Please expect your child to be tired and very excited. We also will say good-bye to Charlie the Elf on Thursday!
Wednesday -12/20 will be our class Christmas party. All parents are invited to attend the party. The party will begin at 1:00 and end at 2:30. You may take your child home at 2:30 to prepare fpr our Christmas Show.
The Christmas Show will take place Wednesday night at 7:00 in the gym. Please drop your child off at 6:40 to Room 301. (Honor's Math Classroom) The children need to wear Sunday best for the show. Please pick your child up in Room 301 after the show.
Thursday -12/21 will be our last day of school. It is a regular day with dismissal at 3:00. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classes will be having a PJ's, hot chocolate and movie party in the PM. Your child may wear PJ's to school with sneakers. A special visitor will visit the children in the AM. Watch for pictures on my webpage.

The First Grade students went to the library last Friday and heard several special Christmas stories wtitten by their 8th grade buddies. All books will be sent home this week. They are a wonderful keepsake!
Father Matt also paid a visit to the First Grade classroom last Friday to discuss the season of Advent. They played hangman, watch a quick video about advent, and discussed the colors of the candle on the wreath. He also blessed several Baby Jesus' which each child took home to place in their home. The children had a blast creating art projects for their Thanksgiving table and sharing the day with their first grade friends.
Big, Big, Big News! We are now a Blue Ribbon School! The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by the Department of Education in Washington, DC. The children attended a pep rally and found out the exciting news from Mrs. Malseed. We are so very proud and excited to showcase our fantasic school. Please help us celebrate next Friday night 6:00 to 9:00 at our Blue Ribbon Celebration!!!!! Please enjoy some pictures from the celebration.

They painted pumpkin which grew in our 7th grade garden over the summer. The 1st and 8th graders had a wonderful time. The next time we will get together will be church next Tuesday, October 3rd.
