Hello Friends, As I am sure you know, first graders are SUPER STARS!!! In our classroom, each child has been assigned a week when they are the, “STAR OF THE WEEK.” The spotlight is on them and they are given a chance to share some special things about themselves with us in the classroom. The “Star of the Week” is asked to bring in all materials on the first day when their week begins ( look on the back for the schedule). Please assist your child in completing the person outline. They should cut it out, color it, and glue it to the piece of construction paper provided. The star is encouraged to bring in pictures of themselves and their family, friends, and pets. Some items/pictures will be displayed in our classroom. I hope they will enjoy gathering items that are special to them and will allow us to learn EXCITING things about him/her. *Please do not include items that are fragile or valuable.*
Be creative and have fun!! All items and pictures will be returned. Here are some ideas of what can be in your “star” bag (a paper or reusable bag of any size works well). Please choose only five or six items from the list. Don’t forget to include pictures. Please back the pictures on sturdy paper or small poster board so they can be displayed on our bulletin board. Star of the Week
Now that our school year is in full swing, we will begin the star of the week. Star of the week is a chance for each student to be in the spotlight and tell us some things about themselves. The star of the week will follow a schedule which you will find on my web page. Please read through the schedule before your week begins so you know what to expect. Please try your very best to follow the schedule so that we can get all the activities in during your child’s week. I will send home the materials needed the week before your scheduled time. Have fun! J
Mondays - Sharing Sack: Please send in a plastic shopping bag filled with items that are special to your child. These items can include a picture of your child’s favorite food, something that shows a hobby or sport, something your child collects, or a favorite small toy. Your child also needs to bring in some pictures to be displayed on the “Star” board. The bag is not limited to these objects. Fill out the poster “All About Me” and send back to school. Be creative!
Tuesdays - Person outline: Please send this into school today, completed. It needs to be colored, cut out and glued to a piece of construction paper (provided). Assistance may be needed.
Wednesdays - Friendship Stars: The star will read aloud all their star compliments and be able to take them home.
Thursdays - Favorite book: Please send in your child’s favorite book for the teacher to read.
Fridays - Estimation Zip Lock Bag: Please send in less than 100 items in the estimation zip lock. The class will try to guess how many items are in the zip lock bag so please tape the correct answer on the lid on the inside. Some examples of items are buttons, pencils, cotton balls, or pennies. Again be creative!
** All items will be sent home at the end of the week.**
