Fine Arts
The Fine Arts department is designed to enrich each student in their daily lives. The weekly Art and Music classes offer freedom to explore the arts with a variety of mediums. Whether trying a new instrument, designing an Impressionist style painting, composing music and choreographing a dance, or building a houseboat that floats, students are encouraged to express themselves creatively.
Our Fine Arts Teacher, Mrs. Pat Frantz was recently honored as Teacher of the Year by the Chester County Catholic Education Foundation and inducted into the Hall of Fame.
St. Max School offers many in school and after school opportunities for students to further their interest in the arts.
DRAMA: St. Max offers students the opportunity to participate in school shows. The entire student body participates in the annual Christmas Play. The 8th grade students have acting parts and students in grades 1-7 sing a class song. The Pre-School and Kindergarten students put on their own Christmas Play. Parents are invited to attend both plays.
St. Max also showcases an annual Spring Musical. Auditions are held for students in grades 7 and 8. The choir also performs during the show. In the past St. Max has presented Lion King Jr, Beauty and The Beast Jr, Little Mermaid Jr, Mary Poppins Jr. and coming this spring: THe Wizard og Oz. The Spring Shows are directed by Mr. Harry Solomon, our music teacher and Mrs. Pat Frantz, our art teacher
Putting on the Hits: This is another opportunity the students in grades 6-8 have for performance. This is largely a student choice where students work in groups to lip sync while acting out the song. This is a very popular and fun evening.
Choir: Directed by Mr. Solomon, our Music Teacher. The choir participates in many events throughout the year including Sunday Liturgies, the Parish Family Fall Festival, Kolbe Christmas, the School Musical, and a Christmas and Spring Concert. The school choir is open to all students in grades 2-8.
Choral members expand their musical horizons in a Christ-centered environment. Students learn new techniques that develop vocal skills, develop leadership abilities, gain music reading proficiency, acquire liturgical knowledge and much more.
Practices are held on Tuesdays after school.
Band: Our Junior and Advanced Band program is run by Taylor Music Company. Students in grades 4-8 may participate in the band. Lessons are given weekly with band practice at lunch recess. Concerts are given in winter and spring to showcase the children's talents. Advanced students are invited to try out for Archdiocesan Honors Band and participate in city wide concerts.
Art Club: This is an afterschool club, open to grades 2 through 8. There are five classes per sessions, for students who wish to further explore the visual arts. The projects involve many mediums and are different than those done in daily art classes.
Drama Club: Students in grades 3-8 will be given the opportunity to participate in an after school drama club. Drama Club is an introduction to the theatre. Students will become acquainted with the history of theatre and various significant plays. Students will experience areas of production such as make up, lighting, costuming and set design. For more information please contact Mr. Solomon.
